Sunday School Update: Spring 2013

Spring has Sprung for our Sunday School Students, and boy, what fun we are already having. Today, March 3rd 2013, we began our Spring Program with our first lesson: “Jesus Feeds 5000” in which the children learned that God provides everything we need, and most of all we learned that His miracle of feeding the 5,000 was a sign Jesus gave us to know He is our Savior! We had two new students join us, Wyatt and Cash, who are Noah Niehouse’s younger brothers. The students are also learning about the Church Seasons, Liturgical Colors, Church Symbols, and Servant Positions within the Church.  Participation is high and the children are eager to learn!

Something is very different about First Lutheran Church’s Sunday School this season. We have new faces and those faces have big smiles! Although they are not new to teaching, we are so blessed to introduce four people who are new to us.

First, we are honored to have Barbara Weymouth as a teacher. After she volunteered one time during the Christmas season, she said, “my heart melted,” and she knew she was “hooked.” Barbara is retired from the Lake Elsinore School District (LEUSD) where she served many years as a school principal. Don’t panic kids, she is very friendly. 🙂

Second, we are blessed to have Linda Warner. Linda is no stranger to teaching. She has spent her career teaching and is now retired from many years with LEUSD where she taught elementary school children. Linda also ran a very successful Sunday School here at First Lutheran many years as Education Superintendent.

Thirdly, Karol Steiner has joined us as our Music Teacher. Karol currently teaches 3rd Grade for Withrow Elementary School in the LEUSD.  Karol has a plethora of song choices for our kids readily available off the top of her head!  Her gift of musical talent adds so much joy to us all!

Lastly, I, Melody Anton, am teaching the Lower Grades with Jenny Fay as my helper. Jenny is a student at Temescal Canyon High School and a recent First Lutheran Church Confirmand. Jenny enjoys singing, coloring and doing crafts with the kids; her enthusiasm is contagious and we have loads of fun while learning very important lessons about our Savior.
We began our “Growing In Christ Program” in the Fall 2011 – and that equates to over 65 Bible Lessons our children have learned. We want to thank the parents for understanding the importance of early Christian education. We are very proud of the students and have presented them with a gift certificate for a FREE Kid’s Meal to Polly’s Pies for their hard work and attendance. We are the Sheep of His Hand,

Melody Anton
